Overview

The Purpose

Introducing, the 35 Carbon Gravel X-Wide. Hit the seriously rough stuff with confidence, owing to a super-wide 700c rim optimised for tyres around 40c. Further, a 35mm depth is selected for its stiffness & burly strength for off-roading.

Featuring the same 5 degree RapidEngage 6-pawl hub as our 30 Carbon Gravel Disc (inclusive of H_CERAMIK freehub), this wheelset offers riders a more burly option for hardcore gravel/drop-bar off-road riding and racing! Benefitting further from a 28/28-spoke count (for up to 115kg riders), the result is a strong gravel/bike-packing wheelset for the heaviest of duties! The extra-wide rim is ideal for gravel and off-road tyres above 35c, with the ideal width sitting between 40-45c. The minimum tyre width for this wheelset is 28c. Hit the trails, HARD!

The Details

Rims

A strong and super-lightweight rim featuring unidirectional T24/30 carbon fibre with 3K weave re-enforced spoke holes. The wide aero profile delivers excellent handling and speed. The evolution of disc brake specific construction has allowed massive weight savings over equivalent rim-brake rims. The removal of braking forces on the rim allows a strong but very light rim to be designed that can focus on it's primary roles of supporting the tyre and spoke forces.

Spokes

We chose the top-of-the-range Pillar Spoke Re-enforcement PSR XTRA models. These butted blade aero spokes are lighter and provide a greater degree of elasticity to maintain tensions and add fatigue resistance. These PSR J-bend spokes feature the 2.2 width at the spoke head providing more material in this high stress area. The nipples come with a square head so you can achieve precise tensioning. Combining these components well is key which is why all Hunt wheels are hand-built.

Bearings

The heart of any wheel. Investing in them makes huge sense. We use high-grade precision smooth-rolling sealed cartridge bearings by EZO Japan.

Freehub Body

Durability is a theme for HUNT as time and money you spend fixing is time and money you cannot spend riding or upgrading your bikes. As a result, we've developed the H_CERAMIK coating to provide excellent durability and protect against cassette sprocket damage often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies.

Rim Surface

V:Absorbe resin reduces vibration and massively improves impact resistance. Disc brake rims are obviously not required to handle the high temperatures induced by prolonged rim braking. We have made the most of this and used our new V:Absorbe resin blends in the carbon layering which cures at a lower temperature. Lower temperature resins are less brittle meaning they have greater resistance to impacts and dampen vibration more effectively.

Rim Bed

H-LOCK is our tubeless-ready rim bed profile with up-kicks to the shoulders of the tubeless steps which help to create a great rim-well seal for first installation and easy sealing of tubeless tyres. The H-LOCK profile also locks the beads in place more securely once seated. This is especially important when running lower pressures off road.

Adaptability

Our wheels are seriously future-proof. We can adapt your wheels to any current axle standard on the market, you just need to let us know what are your requirements by filling in the simple form on the confirmation page after checkout. As Shimano hydraulic brakes are appearing on many new bikes, we wanted riders to have the option so we went even more adaptable with centre-lock hubs and 6 bolt adaptors included.

Tyres

At HUNT we enjoy the puncture resistance and grip benefits of tubeless on our every-day rides so we wanted to allow you the same option, but of course these tubeless-ready wheels are also designed to work perfectly inner tubes, just use tubes in tubeless ready tyres.

Weight

The consequence of the fanatical attention to detail is an outstandingly light 1548 gram wheelset weight. Your acceleration and climbing will be super-charged. There are few, if any disc brake wheels that are designed for the rigours of gravel/CX/heavy-duty road that deliver like the 35 Carbon Gravel X-Wide Disc.

All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. 115kgs is the upper recommended rider weight limit for these wheels. Please include the weight of any luggage in your total rider weight when choosing the correct wheels. If a rider is over 100Kgs then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly and it is advisable to use tyres at max 90psi as this will reduce the fatigue on the wheelset. We are cyclists ourselves and do of course go above and beyond to offer excellent service if you ever do experience any issues. We carry full spares at very reasonable prices and offer complete support.
