Overview

The Purpose

The HUNT 650B Adventure Carbon Disc wheelset is designed to serve as the ultimate weapon for 650b gravel shredding. They ideally compliment the fast, fun and highly versatile adventure-focused bikes like the Cairn E-Adventure, which have a 'go anywhere' attitude. Perfect for those fun trail thrashes and bike-packing adventures, whilst not compromising anything for fast-far road days

The opportunity to open up your riding comes from bikes which have geometry designed to ride excellently with both 700c or 27.5" (650b) wheels. This combination works thanks to the extra volume in a 2" x 27.5” tyre, providing an almost identical external tyre diameter to a normal road sized 700c wheel with a 33mm tyre, leaving the bike geo unchanged. What was needed was a bike that could accommodate the extra tyre width, while still running road groupsets, geo and components.

We're delighted to have designed the ultimate carbon wheels for the job. These wheels are designed to perfectly compliment the Cairn E-Adventure gravel bike with dual 650b/700c interchangeability.

• Maximum tyre pressures for other tyre sizes: 38mm do not exceed 50psi, 45mm do not exceed 45psi, 45mm+ do not exceed 40psi.

The Details

Rims

A strong and lightweight rim featuring unidirectional T24/30 carbon fibre with 3K weave re-enforced spoke holes. An asymmetric shape which is inverted from front to rear to provide balanced higher spoke tensions meaning tighter spokes for longer. Disc specific rims allow higher strength to weight as no reinforcement is required for a braking surface. The extra wide rim at 30mm (24mm internal) creates a great profile for wider 28-54mm tyres, giving more grip and lower rolling resistance.

Nipples

To accompany these high-end spokes we selected brass nipples for our Hunt 4Season wheels. Brass is strong and corrosion resistant plus it has self-lubricating properties to prevent issues that can arise from grit salt on the winter roads corroding the fine threads in alloy nipples. As well as the standard square body we chose nipples with a hex head so you can achieve precise tensioning.

Bearings

The heart of any wheel. Investing in them makes huge sense. We use high-grade precision smooth-rolling sealed cartridge bearings by EZO Japan.

Freehub Body

Durability is a theme for HUNT as time and money you spend fixing is time and money you cannot spend riding or upgrading your bikes. As a result, we've developed the H_CERAMIK coating to provide excellent durability and protect against cassette sprocket damage often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies.

Rim Surface

V:Absorbe resin reduces vibration and massively improves impact resistance. Disc brake rims are obviously not required to handle the high temperatures induced by prolonged rim braking. We have made the most of this and used our new V:Absorbe resin blends in the carbon layering which cures at a lower temperature. Lower temperature resins are less brittle meaning they have greater resistance to impacts and dampen vibration more effectively.

Rim Bed

H-Lock is our tubeless-ready rim bed profile with up-kicks to the shoulders of the tubeless steps which help to create a great rim-well seal for first installation and easy sealing of tubeless tyres. The H-Lock profile also locks the beads in place more securely once seated. This is especially important when running lower pressures off road.

Adaptability

Our wheels are seriously future-proof. We can adapt your wheels to any current axle standard on the market, you just need to let us know what are your requirements by filling in the simple form on the confirmation page after checkout. As Shimano hydraulic brakes are appearing on many new bikes, we wanted riders to have the option so we went even more adaptable with centre-lock hubs and 6 bolt adaptors included.

Tyres

At HUNT we enjoy the puncture resistance and grip benefits of tubeless on our every-day rides so we wanted to allow you the same option, but of course these tubeless-ready wheels are also designed to work perfectly inner tubes, just use tubes in tubeless ready tyres.

Weight

The consequence of the fanatic attention to detail is a low 1425g wheelset weight, and dependable reliability for many adventures to come. Acceleration and climbing are massively improved over many of the stock wheels supplied on road/gravel/CX disc brake bikes.

All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. 115kgs is the upper recommended rider weight limit for these wheels. Please include the weight of any luggage in your total rider weight when choosing the correct wheels. If a rider is over 100Kgs then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly and it is advisable to use tyres at max 90psi as this will reduce the fatigue on the wheelset. We are cyclists ourselves and do of course go above and beyond to offer excellent service if you ever do experience any issues. We carry full spares at very reasonable prices and offer complete support.
